Of 244 patients who underwent left ventricular aneurysmectomy between 1971
and 1980, 11 (4.5%) had recurrent (residual?) left ventricular aneurysm.
The probable cause of the recurrent aneurysm was occlusion of the saphenous
vein grafts (54.5%) or the progression of atherosclerosis in the native
coronary arteries (18.2%) supplying the involved area directly or through
the intercoronary collaterals. Nine patients were treated medically, with
two deaths. Two patients underwent successful resection of the left
ventricular aneurysm and regrafting of the coronary arteries having
significant lesions; both are alive and well more than 3 years later.
