Calcified left ventricular thrombus causing repeated retinal arterial emboli
John H. M. Austin, MD
To the Editor:
A calcified thrombus as a pedicled, elongated mass in the left ventricle is indeed a rarity, but the report by Morales and associates (J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg 1997;114:491-2) is not the first, as the authors suggest. A similar case, also including echocardiographic demonstration, was reported in 1981 in a 27-year-old man with retinal arterial emboli.
